REHAU, a GSHPA member, organised a seminar on Underground Thermal Energy Storage at the Building Centre in London.
Underground Thermal Energy Storage ("UTES") involves storing excess summer heat in the ground in order to extract it more easily in the winter. Renewable energy sources such as solar thermal produce most of their heat when it is not required and hence it is often wasted. For this reason, it is becoming increasingly common to use energy storage to improve the total system efficiency. Expert speakers will provide an overview of different ways to extract and store energy underground.
